Geology & GeologistsWhat exactly is geology? It's applying science to the Earth. It's the science that deals with the physical structure and substances found on the Earth. Geologists are scientists that are dedicated to geology, as they study the Earth's solid and liquid matter. Through studying the things they find on the Earth they try to figure out how life began with theories. They work out how the world works, how processes shape and change it and how we can sustainably manage the world's resources, such as water and energy. Geologists tackle important problems to do with energy, water, minerals and the environment. Geologists are on the forefront when it comes to natural hazards, as they use the data they find to predict those sort of events. They answer the BIG questions about the Earth. Out in the field, they take rock samples and analyse them of subtle changes to find out what's going on, how old they are and what they are made of. Geologists problem solve!

Geologists can work in these fields:

Geological information can be recorded onto maps and graphs. If data has been discovered about how things form or a process information can be displayed in a diagram, moving from phase to phase. Diagrams can also be used for different parts of rocks and the Earth. Geologists write about their findings in reports and papers and share their studies, statistics, data and statistics through these published works among others including in some cases books and articles in newspapers. Out in the field, geologists take photos, sketches, and notes. They share their data with other geologists, comparing it.
